Background
Restoration of German citizenship for those persecuted during the Nazi era and their descendants
We advise and support Jewish victims of Nazi persecution and their descendants in their quest to regain German citizenship.
Victims of the Nazi regime who were deprived of their German citizenship for political, racial or religious reasons between 30 January 1933 and 8 May 1945 are entitled to naturalisation under certain conditions in accordance with Article 116 of the German Constitution.
This also applies to their descendants (children, grandchildren).
With the new German Nationality Act, which came into action on August 20th, 2021, the group of beneficiaries has expanded.
Now, those with ancestors living in Germany in 1933 without German citizenship are also entitled to naturalisation. If the ancestors were persecuted by the Nazis, e.g. because they were Jewish, the descendants can now obtain German citizenship.
In many cases that we have handled, the ancestors had immigrated to Germany from Poland, for example, and had lived there for many years but had seen no need to become German citizens. After the Nazis came to power in 1933, these fellow citizens were persecuted and expelled as Jews.
With the new law, Germany wants to give descendants of these people the opportunity to obtain German citizenship. However, this legal regulation will end in 2031.
The procedure for naturalization takes place before German authorities and exclusively in German. German Embassies are not involved. They only forward applications to the competent authorities in Germany.
We advise applicants and take over the entire handling of the procedure with the German authorities starting with a preliminary examination of eligibility by us followed by the compilation of the necessary documents and their submission as well as answering queries from the authorities etc.
As soon as the German authorities have made a positive decision, you will receive the naturalization certificate at the nearest German Consulate which is responsible for your area.
You can then apply for your German passport immediately afterwards.
